2020 was a very emotional year for Bollywood and its fans. Apart from the cinemas being closed, we lost a bunch of our favorite stars. The list includes the likes of Irrfan Khan, Sushant Singh Rajput, Rishi Kapoor, Saroj Khan, and Wajid Khan.
As a kind of relief for the fans, the nation’s biggest film awards were held earlier this week. Hosted by star anchors like Riteish Deshmukh, Rajkumar Rao, Ayushmann Khurrana, and Manish Paul, the event was bound to be a hit.
Overall, this year’s edition had many deserving winners and a comparatively very less number of people claiming for it to be rigged. There wasn’t any sort of partiality in favor of the star kids. Neither was there anyone who didn’t belong there to be on the stage receiving the prestigious award.
First of all, the Best Actor award was won by the late Irrfan Khan and Amitabh Bacchan in the critic’s section. These were their films Angrezi Medium and Gulabo Sitaabo respectively. No one can argue that these two performances were as deserving as they could’ve been. Irrfan Khan was also given due respect as the legend got his lifetime achievement award too.
The whole paying respect to Irrfan was a really emotional and wholesome moment. Then comes the Best Actress, which was bagged by Taapsee Pannu for her amazing performance in Thappad. It’s also the movie which got the award for the Best Film. Again, both the film and the actress really deserved their respective awards. Thappad also got many other awards including Best Story and Best Background score to make it the most awarded film of the year.
The best Director was Om Raut for the visually pleasing and thrilling direction of Tanhaaji: The Unsung Warrior. Saif Ali Khan also bagged the award for the best supporting actor in the same film. Most would argue that the category could’ve been different as he was basically the villain of the film. Anyhow, he deserved some sort of plaudits for his performance.
We can say the event was a huge success after a year where everybody struggled, including the film industry.
